Senior Competitive Analyst, Exchange Administration
Description:
Responsible for conducting research and analyses, and preparing reports that support Senior Management and Amex Board of Directors in formulating and implementing Amex’s strategy as it relates to efforts to enhance Amex competitiveness across its major lines of business.
Responsibilities:
- Responsibilities include: data collection, analysis, reporting, and other research projects, as described below:
- Data Collection: Design, build, and maintain databases used in data mining and reporting. Additionally, creation of queries, reports, and other database instruments to enhance effectiveness of informative data. Ensure the availability and integrity of data used for analyzing trades and volumes, and other market statistics.
- Analysis: Understand the drivers and variables affecting Amex competitiveness in the securities and derivatives marketplaces through analyses of changing market share, strategic combinations, M&A activities in the industry, differences in costs, and pricing of transactions among market centers, competitor initiatives, legal and regulatory developments, technological innovations, and execution quality. Statistical analysis using econometric, statistics, and charting tools to define relationships among the variables listed above.
- Reporting: To senior management the changes in market share by various matrices (like trade size, stock price, volume of trade etc); noteworthy competitor initiatives; regulatory developments of importance; and ad hoc data analysis in relation to attracting order flow, and strategic business partners. (Some specific reports include: General Trend Analyses, Industry Consolidation report, Fund Analysis, and more.).
- Other Research: Remain keyed into and abreast of equity research analyst reports covering the securities industry, financial market sector or firms within the sector, major academic and publicly debated issues pertaining to market microstructure and market quality and related comparisons among marketplaces.
- In addition, the Senior Competitive Analyst is expected to collaborate closely with staff from other departments and divisions within the Amex, as well as members, in performing these responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline (finance, economics, statistics, accounting) preferred
- A graduate degree is a plus.
- Securities industry or related experience (3+ years)
- Understanding of the intricacies of the stock exchange business, and the auction and dealer markets, and an understanding of market microstructure
- Candidate must be highly motivated, a self-starter, and must demonstrate a commitment to excellence
- Strong analytical aptitude, specifically in terms of different financial and trading analyses
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and presentation skills
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Visual Basic, SQL); strong technical aptitude
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-orientated and highly knowledgeable of vast industry data sources (e.g.: Nexis, Bloomberg, Reuters etc)
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines under pressure
