Text Mining Engineer, SPSS (Chicago)

SPSS Inc., a leading global business intelligence company, has an opening for a highly motivated Software Engineer/Senior Software Engineer to work on the market leading Text Mining technology based in our Chicago headquarters. The engineer will have direct responsibility for the development, implementation and maintenance of functionality in all areas of the product. The Engineer will perform software development design, programming and maintenance of a complex nature. You will work as part of a successful and highly motivated team with frequent interface to fellow team members and other SPSS Development teams around the globe. This position offers challenge, variety and tremendous opportunity for the candidate who is enthusiastic to achieve success.

Requirements include:

  • BS in Computer Science, or related degree
  • 7+ years experience in delivering commercial software applications
  • 4+ years experience in designing and building commercial software using OO Design methodologies
  • 4+ years development experience in Java and some experience with EJB and JSP. It is also desirable that applicants have some experience with Java Swing, JDBC/ODBC and databases in general
  • Good team working and communication working in virtual teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with excellent organizational skills
Highly Desired:

  • Experience of developing enterprise scale software systems
  • Experience in multi-threading and/or multi-processor coding techniques
  • Experience in text mining, data mining, predictive analytics, or enterprise business intelligence
  • Experience of contributing to reviews of product features and to future strategy of products
  • Experience of mentoring more junior level programmers
  • High degree of common sense and self-motivation
