Senior Pricing Statistician: eBay Inc.
Primary Job Responsibilities
The Pricing and Analysis team drives North America Business Unit's pricing decisions and is responsible for providing analytical support to the Tailored Shipping Experiences (TSE) Group that develops innovation programs which are critical to the future growth of eBay Marketplaces. In particularly, the team supports (1) eBay Express, (2) eBay categories such as media, business, tickets etc. (3) seller promotions (4) listing upgrade features (e.g., Gallery, Reserve, Featured plus, listing scheduling, etc.) that enable sellers to upgrade and enhance their listings and (5) new Tailored Shopping Experiences innovation.
The Pricing Statistician will be dedicated to the conception, design, build and implementation of regression models that predict selling activity on eBay's website. He/She will also provide additional analytical support and insight for key business initiatives. This requires identifying and understanding key issues, quantitatively analyzing these issues (e.g., feature and format performance, supply/demand analysis, creating models, user behavior, feature pricing) and communicate key insights and results. This involves very collaborative work with significant management exposure. Successful execution of this role will require that the Statistician be an expert in database record manipulation (mainly SAS/SQL) and statistical modeling techniques.
Job Requirements
Master's degree in Statistics (PHD a plus) and a minimum of 3-5 years' work experience in a relevant field, preferably within the area of Applied Statistics or Econometrics.
The role is data and analytically intensive. Successful candidates must have proven ability to specify the correct form of model and devise a practical method of estimating these models at the granularity in time and specificity of product required, using data that is practicable from the perspective of continuing business operations. The successful candidate will be required to understand at an expert level the source, content, and definitions of data residing in eBay's data warehouse and work closely with business units to design and deliver key performance measurements and strategic analyses.
- 3-5+ years in a related work experience
- A passion for analyzing highly complex datasets, a deep practical understanding of quantitative methods, and superb attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to relay technical and analytical information to business and customer-impacting language to influence results
- High energy/creativity, a relentless customer-focus, an entrepreneurial spirit
- Advanced/expert technical skills in data analysis tools such as SAS, SQL, Microsoft Excel and Access
- Background in the following areas is preferred: SQL, VBA, Perl, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and relational database
