Senior Computational Statistics Specialist (Washington DC)

Premier behavioral and social science research and development organization is seeking a Senior Computational Statistics Specialist for our Computer and Statistical Sciences Center (CSSC). The CSSC is the software development, statistical analysis, and Web services division. CSSC leverages programming and statistical expertise to develop technology that improves our business. Our statisticians conduct innovative research and have contributed statistical methods towards the advancement of applied measurement and psychometrics, social science and policy evaluation and analysis. The Senior Computational Statistics Specialist works closely with CSSC to design, develop and test numerical algorithms for advanced statistical procedures. Responsibilities include designing algorithms to implement models for statistical analysis, designing and implementing test plans for statistical programs, designing algorithms for automatic generation and validation of software test data, and participating in research and reporting of psychometric models for the social science.

Required Skills:

A Ph.D. in Statistics or Mathematics is required. The ability to work with software engineers in design of numerical algorithms for advanced statistical procedures is required. Knowledge and experience with research methods and techniques required. Excellent understanding of statistical computation and SAS programming, data analysis, and applying statistical and numerical analysis knowledge and techniques to interdisciplinary areas required. Excellent communication and presentation skills required.

Desired Skills:

Familiarity with psychometrics or educational statistics, such as Item Response Theory, is desired. Knowledge of programming languages such as C/C++ and experience with large-scale databases are also strongly desired.
