Primary Job Responsibilities

The Risk Analytics group is responsible for evaluating and strategically recommending how PayPal can leverage its disruptive risk expertise to fuel global customer growth by proactively managing the impact of fraud on PayPal and its customers.

The Group achieves this through four related functions that are focused on evaluating the fraud impact on PayPal, as well as its Buyers and Sellers:

  • Collaboratively frame, understand and measure the flow and downstream impact of fraudulent transactions through the entire risk workflow, and provide constructive, positive, analytical feedback on optimization opportunities.

  • Identify key business drivers of fraud, actively evaluate their real-time evolution, and recommend high ROI policy and product changes.
  • Work with the Risk Consulting group and business units to understand and evaluate the risk impact of new initiatives, and pro-actively track their roll-outs to ensure that the fraud impact and related business drivers are managed to projected expectations.

The group is currently seeking a high energy, driven, collaborative team member that brings extensive business analytics, statistical, and thought leadership experience. The Sr. Manager will report to the head of the group, and the primary responsibilities of the role is to:

  • Independently manage an analytics team to identify, prioritize, dissect, and solve complex business problems
  • Interact with different parts of PayPal’s Risk and Business organizations to proactively understand business drivers of risk.
  • Create clear, concise presentations that summarize analytical trends, and translate trends into relevant, actionable recommendations to be presented to senior executives.
  • Provide hands-on guidance and deep dive (when necessary) on analysis that requires the extraction, compilation, and running of statistical analyses on multi-dimensional data to identify key parameters and sensitive variables of interest.
  • Provide strategic leadership in developing best practices that helps in enhancing and re-defining current data extraction and analytical methodologies.
  • Lead in optimizing customer life time value by understanding all the correlations between business initiatives and their impact on customer retention and fraud losses.
The opportunity requires:
  • high and engaging energy – physical and intellectual
  • a hunger to constantly ask “why?” and dive into deep analyses to understand the driving forces behind growing or dwindling numbers
  • collaborative and consultative skills with a keen business sense to separate the forest from the tress.
  • ability to quickly evaluate the business impact of new and existing initiatives,
  • a good knowledge of PayPal’s and eBay’s consumer’s needs,
  • overseeing monthly trends in the system and ensuring that the group is ahead of the curve and synchronized with changes in the business.
