We are currently seeking a talented and analytical individual for our Electronic Surveillance Engineer (KDD Specialist) position in our Rockville, Maryland office.

Electronic Surveillance Engineers are responsible for defining and building surveillance programs that canvas capital market data, isolating events of interest, and translating data into actionable results for our internal business users and industry regulators. The successful candidate will act as a Surveillance Engineer and data miner in acquiring, testing, and validating detection logic relevant to regulatory surveillance. Candidates must be capable of performing the role of programmer/analyst, be a skilled problem-solver capable of making and executing sound decisions, and practically applying technology in order to meet surveillance needs within a prioritized basis. Specifically, candidates must possess demonstrated experience in User requirements analysis; systems design; implementation; validation; documentation; and user acceptance testing.

Working closely with Regulatory Business owners to conceive and implement surveillance solutions, essential Job Functions include:

  • Mapping business requirements into technical solutions for one or more regulatory domain and/or system
  • Analyzing data, and evaluating findings to ensure accurate interpretation of data, and meaningful results
  • Encoding, testing, debugging and documenting complex programs and procedures to solve complex problems considering data and hardware capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results
  • Monitoring and adapting electronic surveillance changes to address industry changes, participating behavior, and/or rule changes
Professional Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelors degree in Computer Science (or the equivalent) with 4+ years of related experience. However, directly-relevant experience can be substituted for an advanced degree.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities include:

  • Full knowledge and experience with all phases of systems analysis and programming
  • Ability to build and integrate technology solutions in a mixed environment of code and data, including BASE SAS, SQL, ASP, Oracle, etc.(MANTAS/Actimize a plus)
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to verbally express analysis results for business audience with clarity and persuasiveness
  • Attention to detail and data accuracy

  • Conduct research into competitive marketplace dynamics, understanding performance, strategic direction and tactics employed by key competitors

  • Monitor and measure impact of pricing changes and institutionalize learnings
  • Monitor and measure impact of price promotions to generate revenue and test pricing frameworks

The role is data and analytically intensive. Successful candidates will offer a strategic perspective, sound business judgment, deep analytical capabilities, and a collaborative working style. They will possess strong intellectual curiosity, and a passion for achieving practical business impact. Skills in problem definition, rigorous analysis, and recommendation development will also be critical. Successful candidates will have exceptional interpersonal skills, initiative and integrity.

  • Exceptional business judgment, data mining and quantitative analytic ability.
  • Strong academic profile with an emphasis on quantitative coursework (e.g., degree in Mathematics/Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Econometrics or Engineering).
  • Expert Excel, Access and PowerPoint skills; experience with database query tools (e.g., SQL); and a basic understanding of data warehouse architecture are required. Proficiency with statistical analysis tools (e.g., SAS, SPSS) is a plus.
  • Experience in pricing is preferred but not required.
  • 5-7 years of experience, ideally at a leading management consulting firm, investment bank, or financial services company.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including ability to present insights and recommendations persuasively. Skill and confidence in dealing with people at all levels of the organization are essential.
  • Intellectual curiosity, passion for problem-solving, and comfort with ambiguity.
  • High energy and a desire to work in a results-oriented, fast growth environment.
