MS SQL DBA (Fremont, CA)
The Everdream IT department is growing! Our networks and datacenters are expanding to meet the ever increasing needs of our business. Everdream is looking for an experienced seasoned Senior SQL DBA to join our IT Operations Database Team. The ideal candidate will have a flexible schedule to support Everdream's 24 x 7 x 365 production environments and the abilities and drive to perform the day-to-day management of the daily operations, maintenance, optimization, backup, and ongoing reporting requirements of our critical database systems. Everdream is a growing business with a fast-paced, speed to market, software as a service mentality. We require candidates to be self-starters, specialists, and flexible.
Responsibilities
- Ensure 24x7 database uptime for Everdreams web application services.
- Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation.
- Troubleshoot and document database problems as they arise.
- Work with the business, engineering, application development teams, data center and operations teams in developing database specifications.
- Provide SQL Server DBA support and technical support for multiple applications in development, test, QA and production environments.
- Install, configure and maintain database instances, creates various database objects, creates users with appropriate roles and levels of security.
- Develop and communicate SQL Server database standards and procedures.
- Review and design database structures to support business requirements including logical and physical database modeling.
- Work with the data services team to design and maintain database schema and related infrastructure for real-time data access for customers, end-users and distribution partners.
- Act as an integral part of the development team to design application database schema and related infrastructure.
- Play a lead role in NOC data services management, multi-node cluster management, and distributed data center management.
- Manage the flow of data from the OLTP web application services.
- Design corporate data warehouse and develop additional reporting systems as requested.
- Perform system optimization and improvement planning including but not limited to SQL Server database performance analysis, capacity planning, system sizing and ongoing maintenance/tuning to ensure maximum performance.
- Support corporate daily reporting requirements.
- Integrate COTS CRM systems and in-house developed applications.
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and adapt to changing priorities.
- Design, Implement, and Participates in the disaster recovery process and database backups.
Qualifications & Requirements
- 8-10 years DBA experience with Microsoft SQL Server in a 24x7 web environment required
- Experience with MS SQL 2000 / 7.0 / 6.5
- Three years experience Telecom circuits, trunking; Lucent PBS and voice mail servers.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows NT, Microsoft IIS 5.0, Exchange 5.5, 2000 and 2003, SQL Server, Clustering, Windows Security practices and Server hardening
- Strong knowledge of network protocols (TCPIP)
- Datacenter, Collocated Services and Managed Service Provider expertise with multinode clustering skills (Microsoft)
- 5+ years experience with Erwin or other data modeling tools
- 5+ years experience writing T-SQL stored procedures
- 5+ years experience with Microsoft IIS, ASP, ASP.Net, ODBC, html, javascript, vbscript
- Experience supporting 100+ GB databases at 10,000 50,000 SQL transactions/sec
- Experience with DBCC trace flags to trouble-shoot performance and resolve deadlock issues
- Experience with Profiler, Performance Counters, PerfMon, SiteScope, Big Brother and other performance and index fragmentation analysis tools
- Proficient in SQL Server Replication technologies with experience in ETL, DTS, log shipping, database mirroring, and other high level data management techniques in a 24x7 production environment Experience with OLAP business intelligence tools and reporting infrastructure
- Experience with Oracle and mySQL extremely desireable
- Information Security experience and focus with extensive knowledge of security practices
- Ability to perform regular security audits and analyze and respond to intrusion detection alerts
- Experience working with fast paced development teams
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to document process and procedures
- Motivated self-starter personality; must be able to work independently of supervision but be a willing and contributing participant on cross-functional Team
Education
- BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent work experience/certification required
- MSSQL Certification is highly desirable
