Job Summary:
Tired of being pigeon-holed. That won’t happen here! Winterthur US Holdings (WUSH) seeks 2 Data Modelers to contribute to our growing data warehouse environment. Located in our Sun Prairie, WI corporate headquarters, you will be responsible for requirements definition, conceptual modeling, logical modeling, physical modeling and the creation of database objects in support of data warehousing initiatives. A significant portion of your responsibilities will be data profiling and business rules definition. Our data warehouse is undergoing substantial growth and because you will wear many hats —often at the same time and on the same project—you will be an important contributor to that growth. Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Develop, integrate, manage, and promote enterprise level data models and data modeling standards in the support of application database, data warehousing, and business intelligence initiatives within the Company. Perform data quality analysis, gather information to determine data sources, data targets, data definitions, data relationships, document business rules, and develop data quality metrics.
- Develop, integrate, manage, and promote enterprise level data models and data modeling standards; maintain and publish data definitions and business rules within a meta data repository. 20%
- Assist in the design and development of data warehouses and operational data stores utilizing dimensional data modeling, OLAP, and ETL concepts. 20%
- Transform business requirements into conceptual, logical data models and identify data sharing opportunities. 15%
- Develop, implement, and maintain standards and procedures for the design and use of data modeling tools to meet business and customer needs and increase the quality and consistency of databases and data warehouses. 10%
- Provide technical expertise on database and data warehouse architecture, data modeling design, and data modeling tool usage for application projects, service, and support requests. 10%
- Perform data analysis using a tool or SQL; analyzing overloaded attributes, embedded relationships, redundant and inconsistent data, and diagramming of data relationships. 10%
- Document systems to clearly communicate to technical and non-technical personnel the required development or modifications and impact to other areas. 5%
- Apply consistent utilization of department standards, procedures, and processes (ex: PLC deliverables and problem, request, and change management processes). 5%
- Improve processes within the Company to increase the level and quality of service provided to internal and external customers. 5%
Required Education &/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or comparable experience and continuing education related to the job.
- 5 to 7 years experience in logical data modeling with focus in data integration and extension of a generalized model for the design and deployment of application databases, data warehouses, and data marts.
- 3 to 5 years of experience using data modeling commercial software.
Job Related Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficiency in data design, data modeling, and decision support systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the design and building of data models to support business reporting and analysis.
- Demonstrated knowledge of gathering database mapping requirements and creating mapping documents in detail using commercial data modeling software.
- Demonstrated knowledge of transactional (ODS) modeling, dimensional modeling, data warehouse design, and development of data structures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within database management.
- Demonstrated expertise in DB2 and SQL language constructs and stored procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical personnel both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of performing data analysis using commercial software or SQL constructs .
