Major Responsibilities:
  • The Marketing Optimization & Operating Strategy team is a new team that is chartered with driving revenue and profit growth in Gap’s online business through the development and implementation of predictive models and profit maximizing analytical processes.
  • Examples of some of the key projects are: Paid Search Optimization, On-Site Customer Behavior Analysis, Fraud Detection, and Inventory Optimization. In this position, you will be one of the founding members of the team.
  • A full time DBA supports the team.
  • This position will interact with a variety of team members across the Gap Inc Direct business, including IT, product management, the various online brands (Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Piperlime, Fourth & Towne), and other operating functions.
  • The position is supported by 1-2 analysts.
  • Actively design and implement predictive models and analytical processes that drive various marketing and operating processes across Gap Inc Direct.
  • Actively develop and implement metrics that monitor the effectiveness and success of various marketing and operating initiatives across Gap Inc Direct.
  • As part of ongoing work and interaction with the broader team, identify new opportunities to use predictive modeling and advanced analytics to drive business value.
  • As part of ongoing work and interaction with the broader team, use interactions and projects as a way to educate the organization about multivariate analytical concepts and thought processes.
  • Support ongoing analyses of key drivers and levers to managing business performance.
  • Work with cross-functional business partners to collect data, create hypotheses, and corroborate findings.
  • Understand the sources of key data structures and the relationship amongst the data structures in the Gap Inc Direct and, as necessary, Gap Inc. data warehouses.
  • Support the definition of new data elements that will drive additional holistic, profit maximizing approaches to analyzing the business.
  • Manage team of 1-2 analysts who will execute analysis through SAS, Matlab, SQL
  • Perform further analysis on the data in Excel or MS Access.
  • Communicate results in a clear, thorough, and compelling way.
  • Assist in requirements gathering and testing of new analytical processes that will be used by the business.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures and training materials for end users who need to understand how to interpret and apply the results of particular analysis.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in selecting and employing statistical methods to test hypotheses, develop insights, and build multivariate predictive models (e.g. multiple regression, factor analysis, cluster analysis, etc.)
  • Exceptional quantitative analytical skills; extensive experience in using statistical software (e.g. SAS, SPSS, Matlab, etc.) and data visualization tools to build rigorous models & algorithms
  • Strong conceptual and creative problem-solving skills; ability to work with considerable ambiguity; ability to learn new and complex concepts quickly
  • Knowledge of SQL and proven ability to work with large data sets
  • Exceptional attention to detail; ensures deliverables are of high quality
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently
  • Ability to build strong, collaborative working relationships with broad cross section of business partners
  • Strong oral and written presentation skills
  • M.S./PhD in mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics or related field
  • 7+ years of total work experience, with at least 5 years conducting ad hoc/exploratory business analyses using statistical data.
  • Experience in online or other direct marketing required.
