Business Intelligence Engineer - Amazon (Seattle, WA)

The role of the Business and Marketing Analyst in the Prime group is to develop data-driven customer insights, based on data mining and leading edge analysis techniques.

The analyst should be detail-oriented and must have an aptitude for solving unstructured problems.  The role will require the ability to extract data from various sources & to design/construct complex analyses and communicate this to your team and management as actionable intelligence. The ideal candidate will be prepared to work closely with management to develop customer insights, but also to be creative in suggesting and executing self-initiated analyses.

 

Role responsibilities:


Play a key role in the growth of Amazon’s loyalty program, using your data mining and analytical expertise to:

• Conduct data exploration, analysis and ad-hoc projects in support of marketing initiatives

• Finds gems in a sea of seemingly overwhelming business data

• Be an expert on our customers and their behavior

• Find the answer to managements’ toughest questions about Prime's effect on customer behavior

• Pinpoint the right questions to ask about our data; recognize and dismiss questions that are red herrings

• Analyze and mine multiple data sources to select statistically valid data samples, and builds/tests/implements statistical models by investigating appropriate methods and algorithms.

• Evaluate analytical findings to ensure accurate interpretation of data and development of meaningful data mining results

• Routinely engage in quantitative analysis on many non-standard and unique business problems and use creative-problem solving to deliver actionable output.

• Present and communicate results of data mining efforts in a manner consistent with the target audience, technically for supervisors and peers; financially for upper management.

• Work with internal customers to understand business initiatives - champion the right way to instrument our systems

 


REQUIRED SKILLS:

A bachelor’s degree in a relevant area such as IT, Math, Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Marketing Information Systems or Finance.

 

Knowledge Required:
- Analysis techniques
- Explanation and presentation of data analysis in business terms
- Data Warehouse

 

Business Knowledge (preferred) of:
- Database marketing principles and practices
- Services Product customer lifecycle
- Direct marketing as applied to services products business

 

Skills (preferred):
- SQL
- SAS or similar
