Senior Statistical Modeler (San Diego, CA)
Integras, a division of Claritas, is seeking an experienced modeler to join its Location Research Group. Basically, the group helps banks, restaurant and retail chains to choose the most profitable geographic sites for opening new locations. If we do our job correctly, new stores will open at places, where the customers are located who favor them.
You will apply your highly developed analytical skills to analyze customer, location and demographic data, and build statistical models to predict the performance potential of sites. In the process, you will have the opportunity to interact with a variety of clients, as well as to collaborate internally with consultants, software developers and project managers. You will join a group of experienced analysts and will be asked to actively and creatively contribute to ongoing process improvement, new product development, effective documentation and knowledge sharing.
Key responsibilities:
- Independent execution of data analysis and modeling projects from reception of data to creation of final model reports/presentations and communication of results.
- Improvement of models and methodology for different industries and products.
- Contributions to R&D projects.
- Knowledge sharing with the group.
- Collaboration with software developers on model implementation and interface improvements.
Required qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Statistics, Geography, Computer Science, Economics or similar quantitative field, Ph.D. preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with statistical modeling and data mining in a business context using large and complex datasets.
- Expertise in statistical modeling techniques such as linear regression, logistic regression, tree models (CART, MART), cluster analysis, principal components, and feature creation, validation.
- Strong written and oral communications skills. The analytical work includes frequent calls and in-person meetings with clients and team members as well as written reports summarizing the model results.
- Programming knowledge in SAS and SQL. Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Desired qualifications (preferred, not required):
- Experience using GIS software (MapInfo, ArcView).
- Experience with demographic and/or psychographic data.
- Programming experience in PL/SQL, familiarity with Unix environments.
- Expertise with a wide variety of machine learning algorithms and techniques, such as Neural Networks, Support Vector Machines, binning, variable selection, interaction detection, rule induction, unsupervised algorithms.
