SAS Architect / Engineer (New York, NY)

MLB Advanced Media, L.P. (MLBAM) is the interactive media and Internet Company of Major League Baseball. MLBAM manages the official league site, www.MLB.com, each of the 30 individual Club sites, and is the most comprehensive Major League Baseball resource on the Internet. We are based in New York City and are seeking an experienced SAS Architect / Programmer to fill a full-time position immediately.

Use your SAS skills to become an expert in the data behind baseball. The candidate filling this role will become the main SAS point person for MLBAM. The position will support a large, league wide web based reporting, analytic and marketing system. Ideal candidates will have experience in large, high data volume environments. The right applicant must be able to thrive both independently when necessary and as part of a larger team. SAS certifications are preferred. Experience with the nuances of a marketing database environment a plus.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must for both technical and business audiences.

Job Qualifications:

• 5+ Years of hands on experience with the SAS programming language.
• Experience with other languages such as Java/HTML/Perl/SQL a plus
• Excellent working knowledge of the UNIX operating system.
• Excellent working knowledge of networks and network transport protocols.
• Excellent knowledge of all BASE SAS procedures and functions.
• Excellent knowledge of the SAS Macro language.
• Excellent knowledge of SAS Access to Oracle, with the ability to write Oracle pass-through SQL and PROC SQL.
• Excellent knowledge of debugging and optimizing SAS programs.
• Excellent knowledge of OLAP data structures, with the ability to design, architect and implement efficient / optimized OLAP cubes.
• Knowledge of parameter driven reporting accessed through a web interface using SAS stored processes.
• Ability to solve technical problems such as server memory, disk space, bandwidth issues
• Familiar with SAS 9 Architecture, specifically the MA suite of products.
• Ability to determine what SAS technology is best suited to get a project finished. Such as: SAS Management Console, SAS BI Portal, SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS Publishing facility, SAS OLAP Studio, SAS Data Integration Studio, SAS Information Map Studio, SAS Web Report Studio
  

• Direct Involvement with internal clients to define needs, consult on proper analytical methodologies, initiate and execute projects.
• Utilize advanced queries to gather business intelligence.
• Write and optimize SQL queries to access source data from Oracle and other systems.
• Ability to work through the entire development process of a project/application from the planning stage of a publication stage.
• Ability to oversee the entire SAS implementation and be the single point of contact for all SAS related issues.
• Ability to interface between MLB, SAS Corporate and Tech Support.
