Team leader Statistics - Unilever (The Netherlands)

The Unilever Food and Health Research Institute (UFHRI) is Unilever's central research for the Food Business. Located in Vlaardingen, the Netherlands, the UFHRI creates and delivers business relevant and unique solutions underpinning brand innovation programs, based on scientific and technological capabilities. For the Knowledge & Data Analysis department of the UFHRI we are looking for a:

Team leader Statistics (vacancy number 109584)

KDA, the Knowledge & Data Analysis department of the UFHRI provides state-of-the art solutions for the collection, management and analysis of data and information. It is subdivided in four skills areas. In the role of Team leader Statistics, you will lead one of these skills areas, Data Science, a team consisting of seven statisticians. You will be involved in research projects in a wide variety of domains, ranging from nutrition and clinical trials, product development and optimization, to consumer science or marketing science. Occasionally you will also support statistical activities in other facilities across the world (China, India).

Your role:

  • Ensuring high quality delivery of research and applied projects;
  • Acquisition/Initiation of new projects followed by effective resource management;
  • Pro-active role as the statistics expert in multi-disciplinary project teams;
  • Assist and advise scientists in the Unilever R&D community on the use of statistical methods for analyzing data;
  • Leading the Data Science team, developing skills and competencies;
  • Deployment and development of new methods, bridging academics and industry;
  • Building and maintaining a network with the academic community;
  • Present and publish internally as well as externally;
  • Member of the management team of KDA.
Your background:
  • PhD in statistics, econometrics or mathematics or equivalent academic background;
  • Minimum of 3 years post-academic experience in project management in statistics or econometrics and a peer reviewed publication record;
  • Experience in leading a team;
  • You have excellent communication and influencing skills;
  • Fluent in English.
Must have experience:
  • Experience in design and analysis of experiments, including power analysis;
  • Experience in multivariate data analysis: e.g. regression, factor analysis, cluster analysis and classification;
  • Experience in using statistical software (SAS, JMP).
  • Preferred additional experience: Additional experience in machine learning methods (e.g. Bagging-Boosting, Bootstrapping, CART, NNs, SVM) or bayesian statistics and application development in other environment such as MatLab and R is a pre.
