Amazon.com is looking for a skilled software development engineer for the Demand Forecasting Team.

Our team builds automated, distributed systems to predict sales for the 10s of millions of products that Amazon sells worldwide. We produce an individual forecast for each product on a daily basis, and are constantly refining our algorithms. All our models have been developed in-house; combining traditional time-series and modern machine learning methods; and taking into account seasonality, promotions, pricing, and other merchants selling on the website. Our success has a significant impact on the core retail business of Amazon.com, from ensuring product availability on the website to reducing operational costs in supply chain.

The candidate must have a strong grasp of software development practices and proven ability to succeed in a rapid development environment. He/she should demonstrate interest in mathematical modeling or machine learning in at least one application domain, as well as an ability to work with interdisciplinary team members including software developers, project managers, business analysts, and retail buyers. Experience in programming with a solid understanding of Java and/or C++ is a huge plus, as is familiarity with statistical forecasting and time series models in Matlab, R or other statistical packages.
