Energy Consultant (Bay Area, CA)
ICF International¡¦s San Francisco Office is adding staff to its energy efficiency group to support a wide range of energy efficiency and climate change mitigation projects. We seek creative problem-solvers, able to work as part of a team and independently, applying a wide range of analytical and communications skills.
What you will do: You will contribute to and possibly manage one or more projects pertaining to: design and management of energy efficiency programs; analysis of energy efficiency and demand-response potential; development and assessment of DSM program portfolios; assessment of utility energy efficiency business practices; review of energy efficiency and demand-response best practices; preparation of organizational CO2 inventories, including building energy benchmarking; development of climate impact mitigation strategies; and integrated resource planning among others. On a daily basis you might develop spreadsheet analyses, conduct bibliographic searches and literature reviews, brainstorm energy efficiency program ideas, identify and analyze carbon offsets, prepare written summaries of research and reports for clients, conduct telephone surveys to gather detailed information, attend client meetings and assist with or lead proposals. Your experience and capability will determine the breadth of your responsibility.
What experience are we looking for? You should have demonstrated experience in at least two the following areas:
Program analysis including cost-effectiveness analysis, assessing program energy savings and estimating energy efficiency potential;
Program design, including identification, analysis and selection of appropriate energy efficiency measures and development of effective delivery strategies;
Program Implementation including development and execution of detailed and effective implementation and management plans;
Building energy use analysis, including the use of specialized benchmarking or building energy simulation software;
Preparation of complex energy analyses involving tools such as Excel, Access, SAS or specialized modeling software;
Energy engineering;
Integrated resource planning; and
Analysis of carbon offset markets and/or the acquisition of offsets;
What job skills should you have? You should have the unique combination of interpersonal and analytical skill that will make you a critical member of our team from the day you arrive. Specifically, you should be able to demonstrate the following:
Outstanding (top 5 percent) writing and verbal skills. We will want a writing sample;
Outstanding (top 5 percent) skills in framing and applying analytical thought to solving complex problems;
Superior ability (top 10 percent) to use standard MS Office projects and particularly MS Excel. Knowledge of Microsoft Access and standard statistical packages is a plus;
Strong understanding of energy efficiency technologies and delivery strategies (top 15 percent);
Strong familiarity with standard cost-effectiveness analysis techniques (top 15 percent);
Strong knowledge (top 15 percent) of policy and economic issues related to climate change.

What additional skills would we like to see?
Formal training or considerable experience with building energy systems;
Experience with project budgeting and cost tracking;
Familiarity with the theory and practice of energy efficiency program evaluation;
Experience with the new business development;
Understanding of Statistics and energy forecasting.
Experience: We will consider range of experience and academic degrees. An undergraduate degree is essential and a graduate degree is strongly preferred. Ideal academic disciplines include engineering, economics, public policy, and environmental science. Directly related experience will substitute for graduate degrees.
