Program Manager (Seattle, WA)
Description: Avvo, Inc. (www.avvo.com) is a new Seattle-based Internet company started by former executives of Expedia and Microsoft. We are currently in "stealth" mode, so we cannot say too much in a job posting. However, we can say that we are committed to helping consumers better navigate a highly complex legal industry, and we are building something that no one else has built to date.
We are building our technical team at a feverish pace and we are currently looking for a Program Manager to help us build an amazing product. Primarily, this position will be responsible for managing cross-functional projects focused on launching new software products.
Specifically, this Program Manager will:
- Work with marketing to translate customer needs into product features and create technical specifications
- Track, run, and troubleshoot day-to-day meetings and processes
- Collaborate with team members on devellopment, testing, design and spec issues
- Manage development features and projects
- Work with Avvo team members to obbtain cost estimates, and provide issue and risk identification.
- Track project metrics and broadcast sttatus and driving decision-points when necessary
- Manage design and technical implementation & reviews
- Maintain and build on client relationsships before, during, and after projects
- Play the dual role of client advoocate and Avvo-team advocate
- Think creatively about solving challenging & business and technology problems.
- Manage multiple tasks and projects simmultaneously and prioritize workload effectively
- Meet ongoing and overlapping deadlines within short time constraints.
You need to have:
- Five or more years experience as a program manager in the PC software, and/or web services industries
- Experience collecting requirements, writing detailed functional specifications and coordination of cross-team efforts
- Been through one or more full ship cycles with a commercial product - from writing the spec to the dropping of the Beta tag
- Managed a software release cycle (e.g. running bug triage meetings, setting schedules, prioritizing features)
- A thorough understanding of the software development process
- Experience working with contractors - testers, developers, agencies, etc. (most of our work is done in-house)
- Experience representing schedule and statuss to internal teams
- A Degree in a technical field or equivalent years of experience
- Extra points if you have both staartup experience and have worked at a big company with good development processes.
