The Department of Corrections is seeking a candidate to perform complex technical and statistical analyses. This position is crucial for the completion of Appropriations Act mandated public safety population forecast requirements, the compilation of intricate data for the forecast simulation model, responding to complex ad-hoc data requests from senior level management and external agencies, as well as completion of ongoing prison and community recidivism studies and required reports. It generates admissions data and assists in offender population forecasts using statistical and database software to analyze data and prepare reports. In addition, the position coordinates the VA DOC legislative Action Summary responses during the General Assembly between DOC and the Secretary of Public Safety s office and assists with analysis of the impact of proposed legislation on the agency.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with major studies in Statistics, Economics, Criminal Justice, Data Processing or related fields or equivalent training and experience. Considerable experience in statistical analysis and data processing. Demonstrated experience in the construction and use of complex databases and database management software on a variety of platforms (mainly on PC and if necessary mainframe). Experience in correctional environment is helpful. Demonstrated proficiency in statistical analysis software (SPSS and/or SAS) and database management software (Access, SQL and Visual dBase). Considerable skill in interfacing and operating software applications. Ability to communicate research findings by presenting oral and written reports to various audiences (Power point and visual graphic packages).
