Description:
The successful candidate will be familiar with data analysis techniques, particularly statistical methodologies including linear and non-linear modeling, analysis of variance and multivariate techniques, as well as basic descriptive techniques. Candidate will be required to summarize and manipulate large volumes of data to answer research questions. Successful completion of these projects requires an ability to understand the questions that are being asked and to formulate them into meaningful research questions. Then to extract the data necessary and relevant for answering the research questions, to manipulate and analyze the data until the answers to the questions are clear and well-understood, and then to formulate a plan for implementing the findings or incorporating them into an existing product or process. Lastly, in many cases, the statistician will see the enhancement through implementation into the Production system. SAS will be used extensively, and familiarity with Excel is also required. Unix knowledge is helpful. Key to success will be an ability to execute a research process that looks like the following: to clearly understand research questions as posed from a variety of internal and external clients, formulate a plan for answering the questions and understanding the intricacies of the data, iterate through various scenarios and possible solutions, settle on a recommended approach, clearly communicate the recommendation to others, work with implementation teams to bring the ideas and enhancements into a production setting.
Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for providing sound statistical advice on behalf of Measurement Science as it relates to new product development, enhancement of existing products, data editing methodologies, and general questions related to data receipt, input, cleansing, and reporting. Requires an ability to work with large volumes of data to explore research questions, develop recommendaations based on the research, and in some cases take these ideas through to implementation. The successful candidate will be able to manage several concurrent projects and make progress against the data acquisition, manipulation, and analysis required of multiple projects at once. It is important to be able to work effectively on teams and to accurately convey ideas and understand others' ideas. Innovative approaches to implementing ideas are required. An ability to clearly communicate research findings and their implications for products and processes is also important. Superior data analysis and manipulation skills are required, as well as the ability to put findings into practice.
Qualifications:
Detailed understanding of statistical methodologies and principles, familiarity with survey and sample design, familiarity with SAS and EXCEL and Unix, good communication skills, attention to detail, self-motivated, likes to work on teams and also is content to work alone, self-directed and internally motivated, well-organized
