Description & Responsibilities
A position is established for an individual interested in pursuing a challenging career in applied research in utilizing knowledge representation and reasoning techniques as a key component in solving a variety of information exploitation problems. These include include knowledge discovery, data mining and back tracking to root causes. This individual will support the acquisition of new projects based on the applicant's knowledge of relevant customers and their problems, and lead the writing of technical proposals. He/she will be the technical leader of projects involving teams comprised of a diverse set of related technical skills. This work will include architecting, developing and implementing solutions for information exploitation systems aimed at solving problems for the DoD, DARPA, NASA, Intelligence Community, and biomedical domains. He/she will be expected to maintain knowledge of relevant state-of-the-art technologies and best practices; and will comply with processes developed for a CMMI level 3 organization. This position shall include collaborating with other technical and program areas within and outside the Laboratory.
Education & Experience Required:
Experience in architecting and developing knowledge representation and reasoning solutions to a diverse set of information exploitation applications, including decision support systems.
PhD or equivalent in a technical area (e.g., Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Biology) with an interest in transitioning academic research into practice. An advanced skill set in knowledge representation and information exploitation computer methods (e.g., ontologies, semantics, logics) is also required. Ten years of experience is strongly desirable. Excellent communication skills (both writing and speaking) and the ability to provide solid technical leadership are required.
