Associate Director of Scientific Staff (Rahway, NJ)


Collaborate with Company scientists on the design and analysis of studies to discover and qualify biomarkers. Studies may come from basic research, discovery, or early development. Data are often complex, highly multidimensional, and require application or invention of advanced statistical methods. Collaboration requires being part of a multidisciplinary team, helping to formulate questions, analyzing and interpreting data, and communicating results both orally and in written form. Team membership includes gaining subject-area knowledge and participation in decisions. Timely high quality statistical analysis will be a key responsibility. Communicating results includes making internal and external presentations, writing memos, and participating in external publication of results when appropriate.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop sufficient expertise in the relevant scientific areas to work effectively and independently with scientific staff. The successful candidate will need to have or develop sufficient statistical expertise to collaborate with a wide variety of scientists. Constant innovation in drug discovery requires ongoing learning about new technologies and statistical methods.

Qualifications

  • Required - Interest in challenging applications of quantitative science. Strong statistical consulting skills, including experience with scientists working on discovery of biomarkers, and/or preclinical pharmaceutical research. Strong applied data analysis skills. Facility with R, S-plus, MatLab, SAS, or comparable computing languages, including ability to work with large data sets. Excellent written and oral communication skills. PhD or ScD in Statistics, Biostatistics, Applied Math or a related field; or a Masters degree with significant relevant experience (6+ years) and demonstrated accomplishment.
  • Desired - Experience with scientists working on qualification of biomarkers, including clinical as well as preclinical settings.
