The following position resides in Illumina’s DNA Sequencing Business, Hayward, CA:

Illumina’s Genome Analyzer is used to perform a range of analyses including whole genome re-sequencing, gene expression analysis and micro-RNA analysis. With the ability to generate over a billion bases of DNA sequence per run at less than $100,000 per genome, it is the first platform to reach this important milestone. Our long-term goal is to reduce the cost of human re-sequencing to just a few thousand dollars per genome to facilitate broad use across a wide range of applications from basic research through clinical diagnostics.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

• Scientific evaluation and validation of algorithms for genomic data analysis the cycle of application development
• Design, implementation and maintenance of tools for high throughput data analysis
• Data analysis and data mining for various internal and external customers
• System performance testing and evaluation using various quality parameters Reports generation and presentation to technical and non-technical personnel
• Interface with internal and external customers to define analysis objectives, quality metrics, procedures, data sets and acceptance criteria
• Technical advice and expertise for company’s support organization and external customers

• Experience in life sciences or biomedical industry with exposure to system approaches. Experience with complex instrumentation and statistical data analysis for genomics applications for high throughput DNA sequencing and expression profiling technologies
• Cross-functional scientific and software development experience in commercial full life cycle software development
• 4+ years data analysis experience with ability to define analysis objectives, acceptance criteria, procedures and data set characteristics, perform data analysis, summarize data in reports and present findings
• Experience with Matlab, Perl, Windows and Shell script, Windows and UNIX server systems, MS Office applications. Database experience is a plus
• Experience in development of validation test plans, plan execution and report generation. Experience in definition of requirements with use cases is a plus.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to details, proven track record of consistently delivering results with limited supervision and aggressive schedules
• Ability to clearly communicate ideas and results of data analysis with professionals of various backgrounds. Previous experience working with customers, working in fast moving cross-functional teams is a plus
• Understanding of some biology concepts desirable
• Willing to acquire new skills and multitask. Strong desire and ability to work as a team player as well as individual contributor, work under minimal supervision
• BS or MS degree or equivalent in CS or Bioinformatics or other physical discipline
