Summary Description:We’re looking for an experienced individual with technical management experience to join our dynamic Vertical Search Technologies team in Oakland, CA. As part of day to day challenges, we strive to come up with innovative applications and solve complex search problems that will improve user experience for millions of ask.com searchers.
Responsibilities: - This key engineering manager will manage a team of world class architects and engineers to implement computer algorithms for information retrieval on the web and document analysis using data mining technology, analyze data to improve relevance of search results, and scale up computer algorithms to very large data sets.
- Work with engineers, architects, and senior managers to define scope and delivery schedules.
- Adhere to release/project schedule and milestones.
- Efficient resource allocation for multiple ongoing projects.
- Day to Day management of highly talented engineers, setting technical direction and code quality standards.
- Providing technical leadership and guidance to team members.
Technical Skill Level:- Solid understanding of algorithm complexity, parallel/distributed systems, advanced data structures, computer networking and operating systems, and their efficient implementation using C++.
- Good understanding of object-oriented programming using C++.
- Good understanding on web protocols such as http, https.
- Good knowledge and experiences in development of large projects in a Unix and Linux environment.
- Good understanding on performance issues in a Unix system and distributed environment.
- Understand mechanisms and trade offs to implement large application in multi-thread and multi-process modes.

Required Experience: - 10+ yrs of software development
- 3+ yrs of industry experience as a technical development manager in the area of internet search, information retrieval, web applications
