Statistician/Principal Statistician, Clinical Pharmacology - GSK (Greenford/Stevenage, UK)


Basic Qualifications

BSc in Statistics (or equivalent) with related life science experience in statistical design, analysis and programming, and a demonstrated track record of influencing research and direction.

Preferred Qualifications

Ideally, you will have an MSc (or equivalent) with related experience working as a statistician within either a pharmaceutical or academic medical research setting, as well as a keen interest in the clinical pharmacology environment. You should have excellent team-working, project management and leadership skills with demonstrated ability to communicate technical issues. Experience of using a broad range of statistical techniques, which may include use of adaptive designs, would be advantageous, as would knowledge of Bayesian approaches and experimental medicine methodology.

We have an opportunity for a statistician to work in the Clinical Pharmacology area supporting the development of new drugs in the Respiratory and Inflammation therapeutic area at Greenford or Stevenage. Your primary focus will be on the provision of statistical consultancy and strategic input to the early stages of clinical development programs; this would include co-authoring clinical protocols, analysis plans, and study reports, and performing and/or coordinating statistical analyses.

Working as a member of a team of similarly skilled and committed statisticians, your demonstrated statistical expertise will enable you to contribute to the design and analysis of clinical pharmacology trials, interpretation of results, and subsequently to use the results for internal decision making, progressing compounds through clinical pharmacology into clinical research, and ultimately to regulatory submission and publication. You will have opportunities to develop and utilise varied and novel statistical methodologies to enhance future analysis strategies, as well as to research new endpoints to aid in the prediction of clinical effect. As a key team member with physicians, clinical pharmacologists and pharmacokineticists, regulatory colleagues and data managers, your excellent team-working, leadership and planning skills will provide quality input into clinical development programs, clinical pharmacology projects and studies, and experimental medicine and exploratory research areas. The roles also require involvement in study design, CRF development, statistical analysis plan creation, statistical programming, interpretation of results, review of study reports, and preparation of manuscripts and abstracts. As a study or project statistician you will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team where you will be expected to influence colleagues in complex situations and make an impact within a cross-functional team-based environment.
