Sr. Director, Data Mining (Chicago, IL)


Base $95k-$130k + 24% bonus
For Int’l Market Research Firm in northwest burb – Chicago, IL
Some relo allocation avail; must be US Citizen, PR, Green Card or TN Visa Holder
Reports into VP or Exec Director, Data Mining within Analytical Services, Data Mining Dept
Fiscal ’06 Revenues over $417 million; $410 million in ‘05

SUMMARY:

Provide data mining services to business units based on various data sources, including grocery scanner data, survey data, demographic data, and external data and present results of this data to clients as a compliment of what additional analytical services needs to be sold to them. Provide complete solutions to business problems using data analysis, data mining techniques, and statistics. Projects may include case study, methodology research, model development, prototyping, and deployment. 60% of this job is data mining; 40% is presenting results and consulting on new analytic solutions offerings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create predictive models based on grocery store Point of Sale data using logistic regression and decision tree techniques.
  • Score full database of 120,000,000+ IDs using predictive models.
  • Analyze impact of Data Mining print programs using a test versus control methodology
  • Perform meta-analysis of historical Data Mining programs to help improve future models & build modeling recommendations.
  • Explore data aggregation levels to support improved predictive power of models.
  • Explore new modeling techniques such as time series.
  • Communicate results and business interpretations of statistical models.

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION:

MS degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Bachelor’s degree and equivalent work experience is required

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5 years business experience, including minimum of 3 years building and implementing statistical models for marketing related applications.
  • Fluency in SAS; Knowledge of UNIX or relational databases is a plus; expertise w/lg busines data sets helpful
  • Experience working with real data sets to solve business problems involving data analysis, data mining; Proven ability to apply data mining techniques, neural networks, statistics, pattern recognition, nonlinear optimization, genetic algorithms, text mining, and information retrieval to real-world data; Familiarity with data analysis tools, data mining tools and information retrieval methodologies, and statistical packages
  • Ability to work independently and in a team to research innovative solutions to challenging technical problems; Attention to details and data accuracy
