Junior GIS Analyst (Chicago, IL )


The Office of the Assessor of Cook County (CCAO) is seeking applications for Junior GIS Analyst to perform a variety of functions in the Automation Department of the Cook County Assessor’s Office. The Automation Department is responsible for all GIS related functions within the office and sometimes participates in projects with other Cook County or other external agencies. Job duties may include, supporting GIS applications and users, Introducing CCAO staff to GIS, Training CCAO staff on both out of the box GIS software, as well as, custom GIS applications, creating and maintaining datasets and developing and maintaining vendor relationships. Applicant should possess excellent verbal and written communications skills and should be self motivated, organized and willing to work as a professional with a team attitude while handling multiple tasks in an often fast paced, high volume deadline oriented environment. May work extended hours and weekends as assigned. Performs assignments and duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Geography, Public Service or related field.

PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of the CCAO’s operations, function, activities and the property tax system.
  • Knowledge of basic Cartographic and GIS concepts.
  • Experience using Arc Map and ArcCatalog version 8.3 or higher.
  • Experience working ESRI ArcGIS skills and have one or more years of experience working in professional environment where ESRI ArcGIS was used on a daily basis.
  • Experience creating and editing datasets in Personal Geodatabases or an Enterprise Geodatabase.
  • Experience creating maps and analysis based upon requirements from other departments. Must be comfortable working with Executive level and working within tight deadlines.
  • Understanding of Relational Database concepts and be able to write basic SQL queries.
  • Experience with the following software packages: Microsoft (Word, Excel, Access), ESRI ArcGIS
  • Experience working with AS/400 and mainframe systems

SALARY: $38,916 - $53,882 Annually
