Principal SAS Programmer, biotech (Seattle, WA)

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

The biometrics department is seeking an individual to lead the SAS Programming group from a technical perspective. In addition to work associated with clinical trial teams (e.g. creation of analysis datasets, production/validation of output, review of annotated case report forms), the successful candidate will have the knowledge and experience to help this growing department develop processes and to implement use of standards (e.g. CDISC).

The Principal SAS programmer will provide statistical programming leadership for multiple clinical/pre-clinical research and development projects. The will collaborate with project biostatisticians in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of programming development plans for each project accounting for timelines, resources and quality deliverables for all project work assigned. They will oversee the work of internal and contract programmers. They will provide guidance and mentoring to programmers in statistical programming methodologies, and contribute to on-going quality improvement efforts.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8 years of total SAS experience in a pharmaceutical, biotech, CRO setting or other clinical research setting.
  • Must have experience leading projects and mentoring junior programmers.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of statistical programming standards; knowledge of software systems development a plus.
  • Experience using industry standards for database design as defined by Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC).
  • Excellent working knowledge of Base SAS, SAS/STAT, SAS Macro language and SAS SQL; SAS/GRAPH a plus. Experience using SAS Version 8.2 and 9.0.
  • Proficient in developing their own code as well as modifying existing code.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organization skills with the ability to work on multiple tasks.
  • Flexible to changing priorities, detail-oriented, works well under pressure with initiative to take on unfamiliar tasks.
  • Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written) as well as good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to work in a collaborative. environment, and desire to improve skills are essential.
