Shopping.com is looking for a senior research scientist to lead the companys research in search relevance algorithms and delivery of the next generation of product based search engines.
Shopping.com researchers must have a strong research background, good programming skills, and a demonstrated ability to generate new ideas and innovate.
In this position you will conduct research in related topics such as relevance feedback, retrieval algorithms, search engine architecture or personalization depending on the research roadmap. You will also have the opportunity to work on a variety of project types, including: rapid prototype and proof-of-concept development, tools, and algorithm evaluation. The successful candidate demonstrates a deep passion for research, algorithms and technology, is able to independently direct his/her activities and thrives in applying research to grow the business.
Responsibilities
- Analyze data, identify problems devise solutions and build prototypes
- Develop new and innovative algorithms and technologies; pursue patents where appropriate.
- Stay current on published state-of-the-art algorithms and competing technologies.
- Maintain a presence in the research community by participating in conferences and industry events.
- Evangelize research initiatives and advanced technology within the organization.
Requirements- PhD and research track record focusing in information retrieval related topics. A strong track record of publication in the leading conferences or journals is desirable. Knowledge of related area, such as computational linguistics, machine learning, unsupervised clustering, data mining, or human-computer interaction/user experience would be valuable.
- Excellent communication and influencing abilities.
- Self starter; able to identify long term opportunities for the business that can be leveraged by innovative solutions and technology.
- Ability to translate theoretical results into applications.
- Good Programming ability: proficiency in either Java or C++.
- Industry experience is highly desirable.
