Research Associate, SAS, non profit (San Francisco, CA)
Seeking a Research Associate for the Integrated Benefits Institute, a San-Francisco-based nonprofit research organization focusing on workforce health and productivity management (http://www.ibiweb.org/). The Institute’s work includes a wide variety of quantitative research studies, benchmarking/measurement tools and educational programs. The Research Associate is a vital position at IBI, engaging in analytics, research-related work and data management support for a variety of research projects and benchmarking/measurement programs. Must be very fluent in English. Responsibilities include acquiring, creating, managing, and analyzing large and complex data files, oral discussions with and answering questions from data sources, and generating analyses and reports ranging from basic descriptive statistics to sophisticated analyses and reports involving complex data. Individuals must be highly motivated self-starters with the ability to solve data analysis problems independently as well as responsive to requests for analyses and technical support. The Associate is expected to acquire a basic understanding of the research topics and a thorough knowledge of the data involved. The Research Associate reports to the Research Director of IBI.
Qualifications:
Education: a minimum of an MA/MS in statistics, health services research, economics, operations research, quantitative social sciences, or related field required.
Experience: Two to five years of experience in SAS and/or SPSS database management and statistical programming. Extensive experience working with and analyzing large administrative databases, particularly claims data (e.g., workers’compensation, short- and/or long-term disability, medical, pharmacy claims). Familiarity with Microsoft Access, Excel, and web-based technology is strongly preferred. Excel skills should include working with formulas and charts on interrelated worksheets within workbooks and creating and modifying macros. Microsoft Access skills should include understanding of overall database configuration, field alterations and automatic report generation.
Required Skills: - Strong conversational skills including fluent oral and written English language skills.
- Excellent analytic and programming skills, require SAS and/or SPSS skills for both data management and statistical analyses.
- Develop, maintain and analyze a variety of databases including large and complex data files.
- Extract, manipulate and manage data from internal and external datasets such as administrative claims, medical records, benchmarking and survey data.
- Acquire large claims data set from vendors, undertake specialized analyses and reporting as part of benchmarking and measurement program (including, but not limited to, claims-data analysis and analysis of employee self-reported data and generation of summary reports ); lead responsibility for benchmarking data acquisition, data-source interface and reporting.
- Participate in the development of research methods and analytic strategies including those involving logistic and linear regression.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team on the design and execution of the analytic components of projects.
- Summarize, interpret and report results and ability to communicate analytic results internally and externally, particularly to IBI members.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities required.
