Job Summary:
The person in this position is responsible for conducting activities related to data management and data analysis related to sponsored projects. The ideal candidate will have an exacting attention to detail, and be self-motivated to understand the flow of data in the medical environment, from bedside to publication.
Specific Responsibilities: - Downloading data from large, multi user administrative and clinical databases;
- Designing, creating, and maintaining research databases;
- Designing and preparing documentation for data management and data analysis for research projects;
- Cleaning and organizing data files for analysis;
- Merging data from multiple files in preparation for analysis;
- Performing descriptive analyses for research projects;
- Performing a variety of statistical analyses using appropriate applications;
- Creating data tables for presentation and publication;
- Interpreting results of analyses for use in presentations and publications;
- Assisting Dr. Baker and other researchers in the preparation of written reports and publications;
- Performing other related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: - A Bachelor¿s degree in informatics, biostatistics, computer science, information systems or related field or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired;
- Four or more years experience conducting data management and data analysis with large databases;
- Ability to write, validate and debug complex data queries in Structured Query Language (SQL);
- Understanding of relational database models;
- Experience with at least one relational database management system, e.g. Oracle, MS-SQL server, PostgreSQL, MySQL;
- Fluency in at least one other high level programming language, e.g. C/C++, Java, Visual Basic, Python, Perl;
- Knowledge/willingness to learn standardized medical vocabularies and their role in electronic medical record systems, e.g. ICD9, drug classes;
- Familiarity with at least one analytical/statistical programming environment, e.g. R/S+, Stata, SAS, SPSS.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Master’s Degree or coursework towards Masters Candidacy, or the equivalent combination of education, experience and training from which comparable skills can be acquired.
