Statistical SAS Programmer (Chicago, IL)

Business & Consumer Insights Group (BCI):

IRI’s industry-renowned analytic experts consult with clients to design custom solutions to address critical business issues. The company provides custom analysis aimed at improving future decision-making through the analysis of historical data. In-store promotions, advertising and direct marketing are the key elements of many marketing budgets; the key is finding the most effective combination of each to improve sales and profitability and build brands in both the long and short term.

Through analyzing the effects of different marketing activities, the BCI team recommends the combination of marketing activity that goes furthest towards meeting the ultimate objective of increasing product sales and marketing objectives. IRI’s leading edge analytical modeling, consumer insights and testing services help their clients analyze consumer response to marketing activity across a broad spectrum of issues.

Responsibilities:

  • A Consultant in Analytic Research & Development is expected to have a proficiency in a mathematical discipline and competency in mathematical programming.
  • He or she is expected to use this knowledge in the development and execution of projects to improve the quality or to reduce the costs of IRI data collection and production processes, or to introduce new services.
  • He or she is also expected to lead (or support, as appropriate) a research project team and to manage and support the development of staff.

Specific examples of problems currently being addressed include the research and development of algorithms & methodologies for:

  • Data integration (data fusion) to enable us to use the data we have to accurately estimate sales information in areas for which we do not have direct coverage.
  • Demand forecasting for use in trade promotion planning and general global supply chain management
  • Increasing/improving the insights we can provide to clients
  • Reducing time to client delivery
  • Reducing processing errors and general data quality improvement

Requirements:
  • 3+ years relevant experience (without Ph.D.).
  • In-depth knowledge of at least one quantitative discipline – such as applied probability and statistics (e.g., sampling and projections); operations research (e.g., mathematical programming); or artificial intelligence (e.g., neural networks).
  • For this position, experience in applied statistical methods with specific experience in either forecasting or the design, analysis and quality control of repeated surveys and longitudinal data will be a preferred asset.
  • Proficiency using a programming language (e.g., C++) or a 4GL (e.g., SAS, Matlab) to manipulate data
  • Experience implementing a research or development plan.
  • Good written and oral communications skills.

Education:

M.S. in Applied Statistics or Operations Research strongly preferred; B.A. or B.S. with strong analytical background will be considered.
