Data Scientist - Unilever (UK)

MAIN JOB PURPOSE:
One of the remits of this team is to drive and enable the use of advanced statistical and mathematical approaches to R & D problem solving, developing entirely new R & D methodologies. The successful candidates will be expected to make key contributions to this aim.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- To set direction for and lead key parts of the data science programme and delivery to R&D Projects;
- To contribute and develop statistical and mathematical insights, methodologies and applications for new problem solving approaches;
- To seek opportunities to transfer existing methodologies into new applications;
- To develop relationships with and manage specific pieces of work with external partners to a high standard;
- To establish a strong internal and external reputation, through publishing, presentations and networking;
- To coach and mentor within the data science team to assist skill development.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:- BSc or equivalent in Statistics
- PhD in a statistical area preferred. Additional elements of maths/computing would be advantageous
KEY EXPERIENCE:
Expertise in one or more of the following disciplines:
- Time series/spatial analysis
- Statistical modelling
- Data mining
- Bayesian methodologies
- Pattern recognition
- Decision Science
- Information and data visualisation
KEY SKILLS:- Science and technology: statistics & mathematics, computing
- New idea generation: in relation to statistical/mathematical approaches applied to practical problems
- Customer focus and interdisciplinary communication: appropriate strategies to engage the enthusiasm of non-mathematicians for novel mathematical approaches
- Commercial awareness: understanding the impact of your innovation on the Unilever business
- External research and partner management
- External networking: able to build and maintain a network within the external world.
