Sr. Software Engineer - Looksmart (San Francisco, CA)

Senior Software Engineer - Ad Serving

LookSmart is seeking a passionate Sr. Software Engineer to maintain and extend our existing contextual ad serving platform. This person will work as part of a team to further develop the performance and relevance quality of the contextual ads that we serve on our platform. Our ideal candidate will have prior experience in developing relevance algorithms as well as optimizing code for the fastest execution time. The candidate will also know where likely bottlenecks and weak points are in any design and be able to offer alternatives to address those areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a team to design, extend, and implement new and current projects for our contextual ad serving platform.
  • Write technical design specifications for application development.
  • Program to technical design specifications.
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and test code (ensuring a smooth implementation of code into production environments).
  • Participate in the architecture and design of LookSmart systems

Required Skills:
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience in working with Perl, Apache, Linux and distributed systems.
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent field
  • Intelligent, creative, and motivated individual - requiring little management
  • Understanding of the software development process
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Desired Skills:
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Computer Science or comparable field
  • Experience with linguistic and statistical analysis of natural language processing, machine learning, information retrieval, and Web data mining
  • Experience and understanding of search engine technologies
  • Experience in refining search algorithms
  • Knowledge of Javascript, AJAX, HTML, Squid
