Data Mining Scientist - Fixed Duration Employee

You will develop and enhance clinical data mining capabilities at Eli Lilly and Company. Key capabilities include in-depth understanding of data mining methodologies and techniques, familiarity with software and vendors, and relationships with internal and external experts. As a member of the Global Statistical Sciences (GSS) Data Mining Expert Group (DMEG), you must, in addition to a strong technical background, have an appreciation for business priorities, an appreciation for establishing and improving business processes, high standards of ethical and scientific conduct, and the ability to perform well both in a team environment as well as an individual contributor. This position is not permanent. It is for a fixed duration of up to 4 years.

KEY OBJECTIVES/DELIVERABLES:

  • Implement data mining for priority projects and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Provide expertise in methodologies and techniques used in data mining to support the Lilly portfolio.
  • Evaluate external data sources for potential data mining to obtain broader assessments of Lilly and/or competitor compounds in the marketplace, or disease states of interest.
  • Develop best practices guidelines where applicable.
  • Benchmark data mining practices and activities against the external environment.
  • Evaluate, implement and maintain data mining tools and software.
  • Manage partnerships with external experts and vendors.
  • Develop guidelines for project-specific support and responsibility.
  • Manage processes related to data mining activities (i.e. patient privacy, integration and standardization of data, etc.).
  • Track and evaluate projects and their impact.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • PhD in statistics, informatics, or related field.
  • In-depth understanding of statistical theory and applications.
  • Knowledge and experience with one or more of the following techniques: Decision/Regression Trees, Neural Networks, Clustering/Segmentation.
